Axon body cameras are cameras that have been recently used by the San Diego Police Department in conducting their investigations. The use of the cameras just like any other device has some benefits and some drawbacks.
One benefit associated with the use of the cameras is to assure that police officers do not violate citizens rights or use excessive force in apprehension of an alleged criminal defendants.
One major drawback associated with the camera is that if you for any reason do not assert your right against self-incrimination under the fifth amendment of the U.S. Constitution you may have a very difficult time crafting a defense or arguing for the exclusion of the evidence.
Now more than ever you should be aware of your right against self-incrimination and clearly assert it once your Miranda warning have been read to you so all questioning may stop until you have your attorney present. DO NOT allow officers or anyone else for that matter (i.e. a mall cop, security etc.) deceive you into giving up that right by giving you false promises. Remember the officers are also conducting their job, and their job is to gather as much evidence for the district attorney’s office, so they can file charges against you. Hence, they are NEVER on your side! Remember as a person living in the United States, whether legally or illegally under the constitution you do have rights so make sure you assert them!
Here is the San Diego Police Department new procedure on the administration of body worn cameras.
